"Laughter Is My Best Medicine"
UC treatment day is like a spa day. Even though I'm spending four hours in a doctor's office, to me that means a long, blissful afternoon of relaxing, sleep, and conversation. My mom comes with me to every session, as she is a major supporter of my condition. We laugh, cry and watch bad reality TV during those sessions, as well as do our nails and eat yummy soup. When we cry, it's usually because we're laughing so hard! I love how comforting it is just to have her with me during the treatments, as they can sometimes be hard.

The most important tip I have for UC patients is be honest with yourself about your condition. Talk with people whom you trust. It's not an easy disease to discuss, but the more your support system knows how you feel, the better they can be there for you! I usually joke about having "a bad colon," as laughter is my best medicine. It breaks the ice and brings a sense of warmth to ease my family and friends' anxieties about talking with me about it! Plus, who wouldn't laugh at someone who says they have a bad colon?!
