Every UC Success Story Is Worth Sharing

The Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA) and Warner Chilcott want to hear how you've achieved success.

Celebrating UC Success recognizes, inspires, and educates individuals whose lives are touched by UC. By sharing practical insights and uplifting stories, UC patients can connect with each other, stay positive, and try to turn their struggles into triumphs.

Established in December 2007, the program honors people who have found personal ways to manage their condition and highlights their success stories in a way that educates and inspires UC patients and supporters.

The 2008 program encouraged people touched by UC to inspire others by sharing their success stories as short essays. More than 500 people entered the contest and seven Grand Prize winners were awarded a trip to Washington DC, to attend the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America's annual "IBD Day on the Hill."

In 2009, participants shared Quick Tips—"tried and true" tips about wellness, lifestyles, and relationships to help manage UC on a daily basis. Six Grand Prize winners took part in the CCFA's Take Steps for Crohn's & Colitis Walk in Orange County, CA.

This year, we are asking people with UC to use "creative expression" to describe the challenges and triumphs of their condition. Through outlets such as song, dance, art, and written work, participants can share their stories—and inspire others to do the same.

About the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America

The Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America is the largest nonprofit, volunteer-driven organization dedicated to finding a cure for Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, and it ranks third among leading health nonprofits in the percentage of expense devoted to research toward a cure.

Approximately 80 cents of every dollar that the CCFA spends goes to mission-critical programs. The organization is committed to improving the quality of life of children and adults with IBD through research, education, and support services, offering resources such as the Information Resource Center (IRC), which serves as the central source for information and guidance for IBD patients. IRC specialists respond to an average of 13,000 inquiries and requests annually, and more than 30,000 brochures and fact sheets are mailed to patients and caregivers through the IRC every year.

The CCFA consistently meets the standards of organizations that monitor charities, including the Better Business Bureau® Wise Giving Alliance (www.give.org) and the American Institute of Philanthropy (www.charitywatch.org).
